  • Recommended resolution – Code 3
  • If the driver is corrupted, uninstall the driver and scan for new hardware to install the driver again. To scan for new hardware, click the Action menu in Device Manager, and then select Scan for hardware changes.

    If the computer has insufficient memory to run the device, you can close some applications to make memory available. To check memory and system resources, right click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings in Performance field.

    You may have to install additional random access memory (RAM). On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

    INSTAN~1.exe is a truncated version of "InstantAccess.exe". It is part of the TextBridge Pro 9.0 or later OCR scanner software. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. This program converts a scanned page into editable text. Removing this program may result in loss of this functionality. More information and updated drivers can be found here.

System Restore
  • You can use System Restore to undo harmful changes to your computer and restore its settings and performance.
  • System Restore returns your computer to an earlier time (called a Restore Point) without causing you to lose recent work, such as saved documents, emails, or history or favorites lists.
  • Your computer automatically creates Restore Points, but you can add your own.

  • Problem: How do I fix System Restore? My old Restore Points vanished, and Windows won’t create new ones.

  •   No Task Scheduler

Unstick a frozen PC
  • If Windows XP refuses to start, press F8 right after you turn on your PC but before the Windows log-on appears At the resulting menu, select Last Known Good Configuration to restore your Registry to an earlier date.
  • If this doesn't get your PC working, reboot and press F8 again, but this time select Safe Mode, and then choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Follow the wizard's instructions and pick an appropriate backup.

  • If you have a Microsoft Windows CD-ROM, you can get to the Recovery Console by booting from that CD and pressing any key when you're told to 'Press any key to boot from CD'. At the 'Welcome to Setup' screen, press r for Repair.
  • Use an Emergency Boot CD. You can create one from your working computer to cover future emergencies.
