Google Local, local.google.com, also known as Search by Location, scouts the web for addresses and clues to pinpoint where things are located, allowing you to restrict your search to a particular geographic area.
Google Local's search screen has two search term boxes: one for the type of business or landmark and the other for the city and state where you want to search. For example, to find people who repair computers in Ewing, NJ, you would enter:
and Google would return the following:
Although it is not completely visible in the screen shot, Google provides the name, address and phone number of the vendor along with information on the distance from the center of the search area (in this case, Ewing, NJ) and plots the location on a map. There is also a link you can click on to get driving directions to the vendor's location.
Note: You can limit the search area to 1 mile, 5 miles, 15 miles or 45 miles with the controls at the upper right of the results box.
